TCM for Headache Relief in Basel:
Acupressure & Tuina Massage
Gentle relief for headaches – acupressure and Tuina massage help release tension and support the body’s natural regulatory processes.
How TCM can help with headaches
They are often caused by stress, tension in the neck and shoulder area, long periods of screen work, or mental overload.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers such complaints not only as individual symptoms, but in the context of the body, emotions, lifestyle, and external stresses. It also takes into account which meridians—functional pathways that connect different areas of the body— are involved and where the balance in the body is disturbed.
With my mindful 4-step method from TCM, including qi gong, acupressure, and tuina massage, I will guide you in releasing tension in the head and neck area, supporting blood circulation, and calming the nervous system.
This helps the body regain its balance more easily and can reduce headaches in the long term.
Common types of headaches
Do you recognize yourself in any of these patterns?
Do you have regular or recurring headaches?
Do you feel pressure in your head, a throbbing on one side, or tension from your neck to your forehead?
Many people experience headaches in one of the following forms:
Tension headaches – pulling, pressing, from the neck to the forehead
Stress-related headaches – when your nervous system can no longer switch off
Migraine-like symptoms —one-sided, throbbing, sensitive to light
Cyclical hormone-related headaches – before or during your period
Headaches caused by tension in the neck and shoulder area
How the 4-step method supports you
Each treatment follows a clear structure that guides the body step by step into deeper regulation.
1 | Initial Consultation
Listen and understand
We discuss how your headaches manifest themselves: since when, how often, in what situations? You can talk, arrive, let go. Together we clarify your focus – individually and without pressure.
2 | Qi Gong
Preparing the body
Gentle movements and breathing exercises help you to ground yourself in your body. Qi Gong is calm and flowing - similar to Tai Chi - and prepares you for treatment.
3 | Acupressure & Tuina
set the pace
I use specific techniques to release tension along the affected meridians—usually along the liver, gallbladder, bladder, or Du Mai meridians. The treatment helps the body to release stagnation and restore balance in the head and neck area.
4 | Follow-up discussion
Integrate and strengthen
At the end, you will reflect on what has changed. Together, we will discuss how you can deepen your experience in everyday life—for example, with qigong, self-administered acupressure, or small impulses for everyday life.
